Celeste Green, 18, from Stoke-on-Trent, is passionate about helping more women into trade roles and see's her journey to become a painting and decorating apprentice as inspiration for others.
She left school and knew she wanted to progress a career in painting and decorating. After attending an open event at PM Training she was sold.
Celeste said: "I loved the idea of working towards a qualification whilst earning money. I was completely sold."
Celeste was quick to impress and after a few months was on her apprenticeship journey with a local painting and decorating firm. She excelled so much she gained a full time position with PM Training.
She said: "I gained so much confidence working every day. I was pleased when I was offered a role at PM Training. My role allows me to be creative and put my skills to good use."
Celeste works on painting projects within PM Training and has recently been involved in a bedroom renovation sharing her skills with other learners and apprentices.
Women in construction trades
She said: "I feel like there is a lot of prejudice against women in the trade. I don't think it's as bad as it used to be but it's still there. Everyone at PM Training has been so supportive and I would love to see more diversity in the trade".
As part of her role, Celeste gets involved in a variety of activities including open events, showcasing the painting and decorating department, answering questions and telling her story.
She said: "I love doing it. I think it helps people being able to speak to an apprentice directly. I want other girls leaving school to see that females can make great careers from being in the trade."
First-hand apprenticeship advice
Celeste adds: "My advice to school leavers would be to get into a job that you enjoy. I love painting and decorating and when you enjoy what you do, it doesn't feel like you are at work. When I finish my apprenticeship, I would love to move to Manchester and start my own painting and decorating business."
