PM Training has been recognised with a national award win for its work creating social value and employment opportunities for young people in Stoke-on-Trent.
The apprenticeship provider outshone sector-leading giants from across the facilities management industry to win the highly contested Social Value Award at this year’s Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) Impact Awards
The award celebrates the success of a nearly 25-year partnership between PM Training and Stoke-on-Trent City Council for the Homeworks service, which delivers garden and home improvement to local residents and has supported around 500 young people into employment.
Leo McMulkin, Director of Homeworks at PM Training said: “It is an honour to win this award and to be recognised within the facilities management sector for the incredible work our teams do each day supporting young people’s job prospects and enhancing homes and communities across Stoke-on-Trent.”
The Homeworks service is a structured training programme designed to support young people who have left school with few or no qualifications. It provides on-the-job experience, training and guidance to help young people learn essential skills – supporting many into employment and helping over 350 young people into apprenticeships and further training each year.
In partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the Homeworks service maintains the gardens of older council tenants who may no longer be able to carry out this work themselves.
Dan Canavan, Executive Director, PM Training: “Homeworks was set up by myself and couple of friends 24 years ago. Every day I see the value that young people get from learning with our teams and gaining valuable life, skills and work-ethic experience. It’s wonderful to get this national recognition and I’m very proud of everyone at PM Training.”
The IWFM Impact Awards recognises and celebrates outstanding best practice and ingenuity from an influential profession which touches many areas of life, including sustainability, social value and wellbeing.
