When 18-year-old Jordan Wright was looking to learn new skills and enter the workplace he decided to opt for a local glazing company.

Jordan is a stores apprentice at Bennett Architectural, in Rose Vale Business Park, Newcastle.

He heard about the job through PM Training. The company works on national aluminium glazing projects, including schools, hospitals and retail developments.

Jordan said: "Some projects I've worked on are huge projects based in Cambridge and I work on goods in and out. We also pick goods for the workshop so they can complete jobs on time".

"It's a good job and there is a lot of teamwork involved which is good because I feel like I help the company run smoothly".

"I enjoy working as a team with my colleague Steve and learning new skills and improving in my job. I've met some great people since starting here which has boosted my confidence and communications skills. I never realised apprenticeships could be so useful."

Glazing apprenticeships provide you with the skills and behaviours needed to start a career in the glazing industry.

As part of an apprenticeship you would be learning how to select the correct glass for the job, remove the old or broken panes, using tools like suction pads (for larger pieces) and chisels and pliers. Alongside this you'll also learn how to remove the beading or putty from frames, fitting the new glass and making the fitting watertight using sealants, rubber strips, or lead and aluminium flashing.

Follow in the footsteps of Jordan and discover how apprenticeships and help to kick start your career. You can earn whilst learning, work towards accredited qualifications and meet new people. As an apprentice you'll also earn 2- days holiday each year and work towards a development plan. Employers are investing in you as a person and therefore in most cases, apprentices are taken on into full-time employment at the end of their apprenticeship.

The glazing industry offers lots of development and progression including the opportunity to become self-employed or work within a team.
