THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCTION

This prominent sculpture proudly sits on a high traffic roundabout in Stoke-on-Trent.

The project features recycled scrap metal engineered by over one hundred different apprentices over six months. Each apprentice contributed to the large-scale sculpture which represents the philosophy of ‘helping up’ rather than ‘handing out’.

MAKING THE HAND

More than 100 young people each contributed a piece of the production which made this one of the most hands-on Artworks projects to date. The base of the hand has hundreds of pieces of sheet metal welded to the frame, these were then galvanized to help protect the hand from the elements.
