SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURS

Warehousing and logistics can be a really great career path. Employers will want you to have a variety of useful skills such as:

  • to be thorough and pay attention to detail
  • the ability to work well with others
  • patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • the ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure
  • to be flexible and open to change
  • excellent verbal communication skills
  • the ability to work well with your hands
  • thinking and reasoning skills
  • to be able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device

It's important to know the kind of working environment you could expect to be in. This will often consist of an open warehouse, so it could be a little chilly from time to time but you will have the correct protective clothing that will help.

Do be aware some in some roles you may be required to have forklift truck driver training.

CAREER PATH AND PROGRESSION

In any job there is always room for progression and warehousing and logistics have some great future career paths.

With experience, you could become a team leader, shift supervisor or warehouse manager.

You could also move into quality control, freight planning or distribution.
