It would be very unfair not start with the most important group, our own people. We currently have twelve staff that have developed through the ranks. Some of whom started here, left to do other things and came “Home” and there is the other group that started here and are still here, bad habits, warts and all!.
Jispal Bassain.
There are very few words that have not been written about this guy. He came as an eighteen year old from Abbey Hill School with few skills, he is now thirty seven years old and has developed skills that some of us may never achieve. He is our finest Ambassador, able to put all learners at ease during their first few nervous weeks. He has literally thousands of friends around the City all ex learners; always their first question is “How is Jissa”
Ann Holmes
Ann arrived 20 years ago straight from school at a time when a female learner was a rarity, particularly rare having chosen Engineering as her first choice. Having tried and tested the workshop she decided that it was not for her, we had a vacancy in the main office and Ann was re-deployed. After eighteen years of trawling through Administration she volunteered for a job in the Skills for Life department, she has been extremely successful in finding her natural vocation. Ann has recently completed her full teaching certificate and is now qualified in her own right.
Nicky Forrester
Very much as with Ann, Nicky started at PM after leaving school although she did start in Administration as was her intention. She has since gone on to be a very valued member of the Homework’s management team; Nicky is our unofficial social secretary, anything that needs organising she is always the first to volunteer. Nicky married husband Rob five years ago and they have a son Max. Rob is also involved with PM as a sub-contract bricklayer on the Fegg Hayes project.
