Working with schools
Our offer to schools in Staffordshire is to work with Connexions, teachers and other staff to broaden knowledge of the opportunities open to pupils in years 10 and 11.
This is achieved through our attendance at events such as:
- School open days
- Assemblies and year 10 and 11 presentations
- Career evenings
At these events we provide information and guidance about Foundation Learning and Apprenticeships and are flexible in running sessions either to small numbers of pupils or to whole year groups.
In addition to the above we hold open days for years 10 and 11. This gives pupils the opportunity to visit our training centres at Shelton, Necastle, Leek and Stafford for work tasters. This consists of pupils doing hands-on work in our workshops.
For those young people signing up to a Foundation Learning course with PM Training there are opportunities to progress to work-based apprenticeships, particularly in horticulture and landscaping, construction trades, engineering, manufacturing, warehousing, business admin and housing.
In addition we can act as host for pupils undertaking work experience and/or alternative provision, which is available at all four training centres.
Funded by the Realise Foundation we are also working with local primary schools to plan and deliver environmental improvements in school grounds and local neighbourhoods.
If you think your school would benefit from working with PM Training please contact us for an informal discussion.
We are also Ofsted inspected, download a copy of our most recent report here.
What young people say about us …
Joshua Statham, aged 17Kyle Rogers, aged 18I joined PM Training after it being recommended to me by my school and Connexions Adviser. I now work at Listers Trade Frames Ltd.
I am really enjoying my job, in particular to be gaining qualifications and experience, at the same time as earning a wage.
I have learned so many new skills and I also have the benefit of travelling around the country fitting windows and conservatories to private and commercial buildings.
I recently recommended PM Training to a friend who has since started on a plastering course and would have no hesitation to recommend the company to other friends.
Matthew Machin, aged 18I joined PM Training in January 2008 after the programme was recommended by a friend.
I really believe that my job prospects have increased dramatically since joining, as I have learned lots of new skills. I have also made a number of new friends.
I have become very ambitious and am looking forward to starting my own landscaping business in the future.
I joined the programme after I was forced to leave my parents' home and set up my own. With no money or prospects I knew that the time was right to do something positive with my life.
With the support of my tutor and new work colleagues I feel that my life is back on track. My skills and confidence are growing and I am enjoying getting a grounding in employment that I hope to use to set up my own business in the future.
I chose PM Training after hearing good things about it from friends - and would now happily recommend them to others myself!
