The Mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cllr Trevor Hambleton, will be officially opening PM Training’s new £500,000 centre at Brick Kiln Lane, Chesterton, on 8 December.
The centre features workshops, training areas, classrooms and offices and will help young people learn essential skills for the housing and construction sectors. PM Training is also running Homeworks teams from here.
Homeworks services include gardening, environmental improvements, landscaping, estate caretaking, handyman services, painting and decorating, soft furnishing, metal work, streetscape and urban art.
Around 150 young people will train every year, around 100 of whom are expected to take up apprenticeships.
The redevelopment, which was carried out with up to £275,000 of European Regional Development Funding (ERDF) money, created around six new jobs in the centre.
PM Training is part of the Aspire Group’s social enterprise arm, Enterprising Futures.
Its chief executive, Will Nixon, said: “It’s a very exciting time for the Aspire Group. The addition of a Newcastle-Under-Lyme centre will enable us to provide more opportunities for young people in the Newcastle area who are out of work.”
Cllr Trevor Hambleton, who is also raising money for the Realise Foundation, said: “Creating training and employment opportunities for young people is something I support wholeheartedly.
“I am very proud to be opening this superb centre in Newcastle and hope that it provides many of our youngsters with the skills they need to start on a successful career path through apprenticeship.”
PM Training’s existing base will remain in College Road, Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent and PM will expand into Leek and Stafford on 3 January 2012.
