Apprentices made ‘fit for work’ Nov 28, 2011

Two top apprentices will each receive a year’s free membership at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s flagship leisure facility Jubilee2 in recognition of their work.
Teejay Thomas, 19, from Ford Mainwaring and Chloe Humphries, 18, from Ad Gifts Online, will be formally presented with their memberships by Councillor James Bannister, Cabinet member for culture and active communities.
They will have unlimited access to state-of-the-art facilities including a 25m swimming pool, training pool, 100-station gym, two studios, aqua sauna, aqua gym, climbing centre, café and art gallery when the facility opens in January 2012.
The apprentices were chosen because they go that extra mile in their apprenticeships and are keen to succeed.
The generous donation marks PM Training’s partnership with the borough council, with 94 apprenticeships being created since the council’s supplier event in February this year.
Since the event firms have created 31 16-18 year old apprenticeships, 52 adult apprenticeships and 11 training places for employees via the Government’s Train to Gain scheme.
PM Training is part of Aspire’s social enterprise arm, known as Enterprising Futures.
Cllr Robin Studd, Cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: “I would like to congratulate Teejay and Chloe for their outstanding dedication and commitment. The borough council is committed to working with PM Training to improve local people’s aspirations and futures by providing training and employment opportunities.”
Will Nixon, Chief Executive of Enterprising Futures, said: “Our partnership with the borough council has created more than 90 learners from different age groups. I’m delighted to see how the apprentices have settled into their work and would like to thank the local companies who have supported our vision to improve job opportunities for people in the local community.”
Sarah Vuckovic, Sales Manager from Adgifts Online, said: “We are delighted for Chloe who is a star apprentice here.”
